Dr. Eliud Kahiu Ngugu

PhD(Cambridge) MSc(Cambrdge) BSc (UoN)

Dr. Ngugi is a holder of PhD in Plant breeding & Genetics; an MPhil in Plant breeding & Genetics, MSc in Plant breeding and Genetics and B.Sc. He is a former member of Cambridge
Philosophical Society, The New York Academy of Sciences. He has been included in Who’s Who In the World 1999 Editions. He is currently working as a Senior Lecturer, University of Nairobi and also undertaking part-time consultancy. He has taught for 9 years at the University of Nairobi as a Senior Lecturer. He teaches the following courses at the university, molecular genetics, plant breeding and biotechnology. He is currently supervising 3 PhD and 8 Msc research projects. His core areas of competence include; Breeding crops for drought tolerance using DNA molecular markers (RFLPs, Microsatellites, AFLP, SSRs), QTL analysis, Molecular mapping, DNA Sequencing, fragment analysis and Genotyping. He has worked with Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) as a plant breeder of grain legumes and underutilized crops for 14 years and
together with a team developed 14 varieties of common bean, cowpea, pigeonpea, mungbean,
Dolichos lablab that are currently under commercial cultivation in semi-arid areas of Kenya read more

Prof. Kimani Waithaka

PhD(Wisconsin) MSc (Wisconsin) BSc (Calfornia)

Prof. Kimani Waithaka is a Kenyan National, educated in the United States of America at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Majoring in Horticulture, he graduated with a PhD in 1976. Currently, Prof. Kimani Waithaka is a Full Professor teaching Horticulture and Biotechnology in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

He has supervised over fourty (40) postgraduate students in areas of plant physiology, horticulture and biotechnology.Read more

Emmanuel Safary Ariga is an Agronomist/Weed Scientist and Food Security Consultant. He has PhD from International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA, Nigeria) and University of Nairobi, Kenya (1996), MSc Agronomy/Weed Science, University of Nairobi, Kenya (1987) and BSc Agriculture, University of Nairobi, Kenya (1983). He has over 20 years experience in Agricultural Extension (Crops, Livestock, Irrigation, Soil and Water Conservation, Technology Transfer), Capacity Building, Research, Supervision and Consultancy. Much of this experience has been gained at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Kenya; International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria; Tropical Institute of Community Health and Development in Africa (TICH), Kenya and University of Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. James W. Muthomi is a senior lecturer and plant pathologist in the Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi, Kenya.
