Dr. Margret Jesang Hutchinson

PhD (Guelph) MSc (UoN) BSc (UoN)

Dr. Margaret Jesang Hutchinson is a Horticulturalist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi with over 30 years experience in the Agriculture sector. She obtained her PhD in Horticulture from the University of Guelph in Canada and MSc. in Agronomy and BSc. Agriculture from the University of Nairobi. Her research and outreach work cover most areas of Horticulture and more so Floriculture, from policy to programming and the entire value chain of several commodities. Some of these include: Development of tissue culture protocols for several economically important floriculture and fruit crops; optimizing the agronomic and pest control practices of fruits, vegetables and flower crops, reducing postharvest loses of horticultural crops (cut-flowers, fruits and vegetables); gender mainstreaming in policy and programming just to name a few. Prof. Ratemo Michieka PhD(Rutgers)M.Sc. (Rutgers) B.Sc. (Rutgers)

Professor Michieka is a member of staff at the University of Nairobi and has specialized in Agriculture (Weed Science) and Environmental Sciences. He obtained his BSc, MA, and PhD in Weed Science and Environment from Rutgers University, USA. He went for a Postdoctoral training at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) prior to his appointment at the University of Nairobi as a lecturer in 1980. He later became the Founding Vice Chancellor of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology where he served for 13 years.  Prof Michieka was later appointed the Director General of the National Environment Management Authority, NEMA, where he articulated the dangers of environmental pollution and natural resources degradation. Emmanuel Safary Ariga is an Agronomist/Weed Scientist and Food Security Consultant. He has PhD from International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA, Nigeria) and University of Nairobi, Kenya (1996), MSc Agronomy/Weed Science, University of Nairobi, Kenya (1987) and BSc Agriculture, University of Nairobi, Kenya (1983). He has over 20 years experience in Agricultural Extension (Crops, Livestock, Irrigation, Soil and Water Conservation, Technology Transfer), Capacity Building, Research, Supervision and Consultancy. Much of this experience has been gained at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Kenya; International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Nigeria; Tropical Institute of Community Health and Development in Africa (TICH), Kenya and University of Nairobi, Kenya. Mrs. Parin Kurji

Mrs. Kurji has a Master of Science (Statistics) and a Bachelor of Science (Pure & Applied Mathematics) from the University of Nairobi in 1971 and 1969, respectively.

 She teaches Mathematical Techniques to Undergraduate Engineering students; Mathematics & Statistics to undergraduate Veterinary Students; Mathematics and Statistics to undergraduate Agriculture and Food Science and Technology students; Statistics and Design of Experiments to postgraduate students in Animal Production and various disciplines of Agriculture University of Nairobi.  She is a member on the Editorial Board of the East African Statistics Journal.
