International training workshop on Increasing the Development Impact of Agricultural Research in Africa, 26th October- 7th December 2018

 

The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS), Department of Plant Science and Crop protection, University of Nairobi, in collaboration with University of Sydney, will conduct a six week training course on Increasing the Development Impact of Agricultural Research in Africa The training will take place at the Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel, Nairobi and the World Vegetable Centre in Arusha, Tanzania. The training program consists of six modules, the first module is an online module, four modules (2-5, one week each) will be conducted in Kenya and module 6 will be conducted in Tanzania. This is the fourth course of the programme being run, this time in collaboration with the World Vegetable Centre in Arusha, Tanzania. The programme is led by Prof. Florence Olubayo, working with Prof. George Cheminingwa of the Department of Plant science and Crop Protection. Other collaborating Institutions in the Training programme include, Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), icipe, the Kyeema Foundation, Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN.

This course is designed for African, mid-career male and female professionals, working in agricultural policy, research and outreach, both in government and the private sector. It is designed to increase their understanding, and applied knowledge and practice of maximising impact of agricultural research, particularly focusing on forming effective partnerships across the public and private sectors. It is also designed to facilitate the building of networks within Africa among participants, as well as develop cross Africa-Australia linkages in this area. It is a flexible program, tailored to accommodate those from a range of backgrounds. The participants are drawn from13 African countries: Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia,          Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria Rwanda South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
