Apply to be an AAS Affiliate Programme

Applications are invited for the sixth cohort of Affiliates of the African Academy of Sciences.

The AAS Affiliates Programme seeks early and mid-career scientists who demonstrate excellence in their development and application of science in Africa. These individuals become ‘Affiliate of The AAS’ for a period of five years during which they receive individualized professional development support and join a wider community of science leaders on the African continent.

TECH4IMPACT SUMMER SCHOOL- OPPORTUNITY FOR 6 MONTHS STUDENTS EXPERIENCE

We are pleased to inform you that the EPFL Tech4Impact initiative and UM6P are organizing a 6-weeks Summer School which will be an immersive virtual experience starting on 28th of June ! The program is open to students from all around the world, we thank you for sharing this information with your students. The aim will be to develop innovative and sustainable solutions addressing core societal challenges in the Global South.

 During this program, the students will get all the necessary tools to implement your ideas into long lasting impact projects. Students will be collaborating in intercultural teams all along the way. Thanks to the weekly workshops, mentoring and peer sharing sessions, the students will be able to turn an idea developed from scratch into a concrete and implementable project that will help to solve the challenges faced by by our partners NGOs : WWF, UNAIDS, MedAir, Terre des Hommes, Selco Foundation and Base. The selected students who want to continue working on their projects can be supported by UM6P’s StartGate and its partner programs.

Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI) Grant for Early Career Researchers

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is pleased to announce a new TWAS Research Grant Programme, through the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI). The call for 2021 is now open and will remain open until 27 July 2021.

The programme is specifically aimed at PhD graduates from selected African countries, who obtained their PhD abroad within the last 5 years and returned home within the last 36 months or will return home before the end of 2021.

Attached is a flyer for the programme that can be circulated electronically or printed and put up at university notice boards. We appreciate your help with the dissemination of this new programme.

WFP Innovation Accelerator International Internship program; United Nations World Food Program Tanzania Country Office

he World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The Tanzania Field innovation Hub complements the global WFP Innovation Accelerator based in Munich, Germany. The Accelerator has grown to a team of 50 innovators from diverse backgrounds. WFP believes that new ideas and disruptive approaches are crucial to getting closer to achieving #zerohunger. To this end, WFP’s first Field Innovation Hub (the Hub) was established in Tanzania in 2017. Now in its fourth year, the Hub has laid the groundwork for catalyzing Tanzania’s innovation ecosystem and changing the way WFP approaches both current and future operations. The Tanzania Filed Innovation hub works very closely with the Accelerator and the Country Office team in Tanzania to deliver on its objectives.

The Tanzania Field Innovation Hub is participating in the WFP international internship program which seeks to recruit motivated and qualified candidates to fill positions of the 2021 Policy and Programme Department (PD) Internship Programme from universities across the globe. The program aims to offer the selected candidate(s) a chance to understand WFP’s overall operations and gain first-hand exposure to practical use of innovation methodologies such as HCD and Lean Startup. The internship position will run from June/July this year for a minimum of 3 months and up to 8 months. The selected intern will be based either in Dar es Salaam or work remotely depending on the pandemic-caused restrictions and will be offered a monthly stipend to cover part of their cost of living. Please do note the deadline to apply is May 2nd at 11:59 pm Rome time (GMT + 1).

Krystle Kabare Scholarship Programme

Development Pathways is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Krystle Kabare Scholarship Programme.

Development Pathways is an international consultancy firm specialising in the fields of social protection, social development, development communications, management information systems and capacity building across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific. The organisation is headquartered in the United Kingdom with a subsidiary in Kenya. 

The Krystle Kabare Scholarship has been established in honour of Krystle’s life. The Late Krystle was an employee at Development Pathways when she tragically passed away in 2017 following a road accident. Krystle was passionate about the rights of persons living with disabilities and it is this interest that is the inspiration for the Krystle Kabare Scholarship.

 

The scholarship will provide full academic funding to a Kenyan student with disabilities to study a Master’s degree at the University of Nairobi, within the fields of Public Health, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, Social Statistics or any other relevant fields.
