How to Apply

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN CROP PROTECTION

The following shall be eligible for admission for the diploma course:

    1. Holders of KCSE with mean grade of C plain and C- pass in any of the following subjects: biology, chemistry, agriculture, or physics.
    2. Holders of KCE with division II and at least a pass in biology or chemistry, or physics or agriculture, or physical science or mathematics.
    3. Holders of KACE with at least one Principal level pass and one subsidiary pass in biology or chemistry or physics or mathematics.
    4. Holders of certificate in Crop Protection, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Environmental Sciences or related Plant or Biological Sciences.
    5. Holders of Diploma, Higher diploma or degree in any natural or biological sciences

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR BSc. HORTICULTURE

Admission requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Horticulture shall be: -

  1. Holders of KCSE with mean grade of C+ with passes at C or above in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics or Geography, and any one of the following; -

English, Kiswahili, Physics (if not included above), History and Government, Geography (if not included above), Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, Hindu Religious Education, Home Science, Art and Design, Agriculture, Aviation Technology, Computer Science, French, Germany, Arabic, Music, Business Studies.

  1. Holders of K.A.C.E or equivalent with minimum 2 principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics. If Mathematics was not offered at K.A.C.E, then it is accepted at Ordinary Level but with a minimum of a credit pass.
  2. Holders of a Diploma in Biological Sciences or related sciences from a recognized institution with credit or distinction, with KCSE mean grade of C or above.
  3. Holders of a degree in biological sciences or related sciences from a recognized

University.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS BSc. AGRICULTURE (CROP SCIENCE MAJOR/CROP PROTECTION MAJOR)

 

  1. Holders of KCSE with mean grade of C+ with passes at C or above in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics or Geography, and any one of the following; -

English, Kiswahili, Physics (if not included above), History and Government, Geography (if not included above), Christian Religious Education, Islamic Religious Education, Hindu Religious Education, Home Science, Art and Design, Agriculture, Aviation Technology, Computer Science, French, Germany, Arabic, Music, Business Studies.

  1. Holders of K.A.C.E or equivalent with minimum 2 principal passes in Biology and Chemistry and at least a subsidiary pass in Mathematics. If Mathematics was not offered at K.A.C.E, then it is accepted at Ordinary Level but with a minimum of a credit pass.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAMMES

The common regulations for the Master’s degree of the University of Nairobi and Faculty of Agriculture shall apply.

  1. Holders of a degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Horticulture, Botany and Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, or related plant science degree or Bachelor of Education in Science with Botany and Zoology option and any other relevant subject from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.
  2. Holders of a degree with at least Lower Second Class Honours in any of the degrees specified in (i) above with two years of relevant experience or a postgraduate diploma in (i) above or equivalent qualification from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognised by Senate.
  3. Holders of a pass Bachelor’s degree in disciplines specified in (1) above and a postgraduate diploma or its equivalent from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the senate.
  4. Holders of a pass degree in the disciplines specified in (1) above with at least five years relevant work experience in agricultural related fields.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN AGRONOMY

The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply.

  1. Holders of a Master’s degree in Agronomy or related plant sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate
  2. In addition, the applicant shall hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture related disciplines from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.
  3. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  4. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.
  5. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must produce evidence of proficiency in spoken and written English language.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN CROP PROTECTION

  1. The PhD programme will admit holders of a Master’s degree in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Botany and Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Horticulture, Biotechnology, Agricultural Extension Education, Soil Science, Seed Science and Technology, Bachelor of Education in Science with botany and Zoology option, and any other relevant subject from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.
  2. In addition, the applicant shall hold a Bachelor of Science degree in any of the disciplines in (i) above from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate
  3. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  4. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.
  5. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must produce evidence of proficiency in spoken and written English language.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN AGRICULTURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (ARM)

Holders of a Master’s degree in agriculture or any related field in plant sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate

  1. In addition, the applicant shall hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture related disciplines from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.
  2. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  3. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.
  4. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must produce evidence of proficiency in spoken and written English language.

 

 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN HORTICULTURE

The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply.

  1. Holders of a Master’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy Crop Protection, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, and related plant sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate
  1.  The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  2. The concept note shall include a title, name of the candidate, introduction, brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan, budget and key references.

 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN PLANT BREEDING AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply.

  1. Holders of a Master’s degree in Plant Breeding and related sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate
  1. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  2. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN PLANT PATHOLOGY

The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply.

  1. Holders of a Master’s degree in Plant Pathology and related sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate
  1. The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.
  2. The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN SEED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The common regulations for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply.

i     Holders of a Master’s degree in Seed science and Technology and related plant sciences from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by Senate.

 

ii.   The applicant must be able to produce evidence of adequate academic background in the discipline and capacity to carry out original research by submitting a research concept note on the proposed topic of study.

 

iii.  The concept note shall include a brief statement of the problem, research objectives, research hypothesis, brief literature review, summary of proposed methodology, expected outputs, work plan and key references.
