International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste - 29th Sept 2022

29th September: United Nation’s International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste

Stop Food Loss and Waste. For the People. For the Planet

Did you know that 14% of food produced for human consumption is lost between the harvest and retail stages and an additional 17% is wasted at the retail and consumption stages? Food Loss and Waste (FLW) impacts food and nutrition security negatively in a world where >800 million people struggle to meet their daily needs. Additionally, FLW has a negative footprint on the environment contributing 8 – 10% of global greenhouse gases. There is urgent need to address FLW in the efforts to achieve food and nutrition security in sustainable food systems.

Join the dialogue in a Webinar organized by the University of Nairobi in partnership with the Consortium for Innovation in Postharvest Loss and Food Waste Reduction. The Webinar scheduled for 29th September, 2022 from 2.30 to 3.45 PM (EAT) has been organized to mark the 3rd United Nation's International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

Panelists (who are members of the Consortium for Innovations in Post-Harvest Loss and Food Waste Reduction) will share their research efforts to find sustainable and context-specific solutions to FLW. The Webinar will also feature the efforts by the Consortium to bring global thought leaders and researchers together to impact future practices and innovations.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions through a moderated panel discussion.
